Inhabitants of Anan XXIII
The Black Bears that frequent the creek near the Anan Observatory are protected and left to their own devices, although they are discouraged from becoming curious with humans by vigilant forest rangers. Keeping bears wild and giving them reasons to be discouraged from interacting with humans has a positive effect on bear populations. Bears too used to people can become aggressive and will frequent urban areas to poach from trash cans, gardens, and local chicken coops. Better for them to enjoy the benefits of the wild salmon and berries that are plentiful in this area.
